How do I find more music like this? (banda adjacent, but with only tuba, guitar, and accordion?)

Post by philnotfil »

Spent some time in a city with a spanish language radio station. I now love banda (Mexican polka with turbocharged tuba basslines). But there was some really wild stuff mixed in- tuba on lead guitar, vocalist playing rhythm guitar, and accordion doing whatever accordions do.

I don't speak spanish, so finding this music online has been a challenge. So far I've only found one recording in the style I was hearing on the radio:

What is this style called? How do I find more of it? Does anyone know of transcriptions available?

That's called some great dang tuba playing!

I think it's still Banda, just a more progressive or alternative version of the form. It might also fit into the very close-sounding Norteño or Tejano musics, both of which have their alt versions. Good luck!

It’s norteño and sierreño. You can also look up “corridos” as that is what the songs they play are called. Tons of groups like this out there. Here are some good examples of this style.

Internet radio and streaming resources, which may require payment of a subscription fee:
1) Cable tv channel, if available in your area, Bandamax
and the Banda and related radio services:
2) Live 365 subscription internet radio
3) Pandora
4) Google Play
5) Radio.net
There are probably others.
