Making slide move more quickly

Post by TheDancingSousa »

What would be the easiest way to go about speeding up a clean slide? There's no gunk, the tolerance is just very tight. It's my first valve slide, and I'd like to move it more easily.

Whenever my slides get slow, I put the Conn slide gel ("the red stuff") on the slide, and work it around for a solid 10-15 seconds, then I put Al Cass slide oil on the slide, this usually works pretty well. my 1st, 3rd, and 4th slides all move with just gravity. If you don't want it THAT smooth, use less Al Cass oil, or don't use any at all. My slides are also lapped and aligned, but I'd save lapping for a last-ditch effort or if you really want your slides to move like melted butter.

Resiliance Oils makes a 'kick slide gel' https://www.resilienceoils.com/resilien ... -slide-gel that works really well on my slides. I also found success in using some citrus degreaser on the slide first to clean off old oil/products before applying new stuff.
