For Sale: Miraphone 291 Bruckner CC Tuba with Case - $9000

Post by michaelrmurrin »

Hello Everyone,

I am selling an excellent Miraphone 291 Bruckner 5/4 CC Tuba. Silver plated, 5-valve.

Price $9000
Plus $400 shipping and handling if not pickup

See photos for cosmetic shape. Photos are located at this Google Drive link: Pictures of Tuba, Case, and Mouthpiece

I did my best to take pictures showing all blemishes, tarnishes, and scratches. Please inspect pictures carefully.

I am located in Santa Rosa, CA, about an hour north of San Francisco. I am willing to ship the tuba, but if interested in pickup, I am willing to drive a significant distance from my location, if located close enough to perhaps “meet in the middle” type thing.

I am at a point where I am having to make a decision as to what in my life is a luxury and what is not. In an ideal world I would not sell this tuba, because it is truly an excellent CC tuba. It has an excellent, rich sound in all registers. Mid and high registers are crisp and clean. Low register is very open with easy response. The tuba has the high quality you would expect from Miraphone. I had a successful 4 years playing this tuba at the University of Southern California.

I bought this tuba from The Horn Guys in southern California (rather, my dad bought it for me before college) and I tested 2 different tubas of this same model and plating, and this one felt like it played better. I have been the only owner of this tuba.

If the main tuning slide is completely removed, it can take a little delicacy to get one side of the slide back on, as the slide was accidentally dropped once. The slide still moves/slides easily and freely. All other slides are completely undamaged functionally and move easily and smoothly. All valves are in top-level condition. Valve bumpers are neoprene, keeping the valves carefully aligned, without the decay that cork bumpers develop over time. Valves and slides have not been lapped or modified.

Here are some examples of this tuba's sound:

High range (from 2012) (with Miraphone TU 31 mouthpiece):

Low range (from 2026) (with Kellyberg silver plated brass mouthpiece) -- (in this video I'm not in 100% playing shape but it demonstrates low range pretty well):

Orchestral context (from 2013) (with Miraphone TU 31 mouthpiece):

Reasonable offers will be considered.

Instrument comes with a standard SKB hard case that also functions as a flight case, I have flown with this tuba and case a couple of times. The SKB case has 2 wheels on it. The wheels are in great shape. But my experience with SKB cases is, you have to be a little delicate with what you roll it over to avoid wheel damage. I do not have a gig bag for this tuba. See pictures for condition of SKB case. There is a small rubber stopper/bumper missing, but the case still stands upright without problems.

Instrument comes with Bach 18 mouthpiece.

I am happy to answer any questions. For purchase inquiries or offers, please private message me. If having any trouble private messaging me, I am happy to provide an email address here if necessary.

Thank you,

Michael Murrin
