My experience is that rather than hurting, if you use the correct tuba chops for tuba it actually helped my doubling immensely in college. Also, even though I went to music school, I didn't even START playing tuba except for marching band for the first couple of years, so no, I don't think it will hurt, especially something so similar, as long as you keep up your tuba studies. IMHO
