Cerveny 651 Eb?
Hello fellow tubnet people, any of you guys have any experience with the Cerveny 651 Eb? I May sometime in the distant future possibly be looking for a Rotary valved Eb horn and I have not heard much about this one, though from looking at pics the horn model looks super nice and I like the lay out
of the horn. anyone ever played one before and also where can you purchase one in the us? thanks zach.

I've played the 641 Eb and did not like the low register, which seemed weak to me. Since their website lists the 651 as having the same bore, I suspect the playing characteristics are similar. I seem to remember the 641 having notes including and below the 4V low BBb as difficult to play -- stuffy and hard to get the instrument to speak. This was several years ago, and I don't know if any improvements have been made to this instrument in the meantime.
Another rotary Eb you might consider is the new Miraphone 283 -- "soon to arrive" on the market.
Regards,

Thanks for the info steve. I haven't heard much about this new miraphone 283, is it the model called like Norwegian star or something similar?, If it's an Eb version of the firebird I bet it's going to be a fine horn.Steve Inman wrote:

If you look at pictures of the 651 F and the 641 Eb ...Steve Inman wrote:... I've played the 641 Eb and did not like the low register, which seemed weak to me. Since their website lists the 651 as having the same bore, I suspect the playing characteristics are similar.

... it appears that the 641 Eb is almost identical to the 651 F, with 18" of small-bore tube added between the mouthpiece and the main body (mostly after the 4th valve, which requires that the tubing be looped around and a horizontal-pull main tuning slide fitted (as contrasted with the vertical-pull main slides of the 651 F and 651 Eb)). I've read that the low range on the 641 Eb is stuffy. I've also read, just recently, that the low range on the 651 F is not stuffy. I'm inclined to think the extra small tubing (and loops therein) may have something to do with that.
The 651 Eb is a physically-larger instrument (larger bell & taller) with the same type of valve-section-and-main-slide layout as the 651 F, which makes me suspect that the low range on that horn may be good also (if anyone here has played one, I'd be interested to hear about it too).
There are a couple of Web sites which list them as available:ZACH336 wrote:... where can you purchase one in the us?
