Postings by people with no ID (at least unknown to me) or location in their avatar. I like to have at least an idea of whom I'm speaking with. I certainly recognize posters from years gone by, and I don't need to know anyone's real name, however, I was about to click my answer on a recent question that I actually knew the answer to (it wasn't about playing, I get those answers from you guys and girls), and then I just stopped and decided not to answer someone unknown to me. I find it to be easy to stir up trouble from behind a screen, but much harder when anybody in the world can find a picture of me in one click of their computer. If you find any of my old rants here on tubenet or the old tubenet, I might not agree with my old opinons any more, but I'll certainly own up to them, I just find it uncomfortable to debate people who don't play by the same rules. As usual, my opinion only counts for me. Peace. (really). ASG

Well the worst ones are the horn topics. Is BBb better than CC? And all of the combinations of the above. Mouthpieces come in second. If I use this mouthpiece can I play like Alan Baer? The other options for the vote basically blend into a big third for me except one. The newbie reposting. This is why they're called NEWBIE. If they knew better than they wouldn't post what they post. In reality just about every topic has been discussed on this fine board. It's just a matter of how the poster decides to put a spin on a topic. There's my .25...oh yeah, big spender.

I think the posts from newcomers are part of what makes the TubeNet interesting. I enjoy the wisdom of some of the old-timers, but frankly, if it weren't for the influx of new ideas... odd personalities... stupid remarks... flames... and the occasional dispute, any BBS would become rather boring.

If a person doesn't want to read a topic, they certainly don't have to. My REAL pet peeve lies with the people who insist of slamming posters for making spelling errors or asking honest (although stupid) questions. Just my opinion.

The one thing THIS medium lacks is consistant, reproducable sound. Now if people asked "What keyboard should I use to type like xxxxxx", you'd have more of a case...
People should not be afraid to ask questions. Response is a better way to avoid misunderstanding than simply reading. And everyone knows that unlacquered CC's are far superior...

I have to admit that it gets a little old when seemingly every topic ends up with pictures of scantily clad women. If, instead, they ended up with pictures of scantily-clad MEN, I might yawn less. And I have seen that picture of the Elvis impersonator with the tight pants, one time too many, despite the fact that he is, supposedly, a man.

In a way, this topic goes along the lines of "What do you like about tubenet?" rather than "what are the topics you dislike the most?"

I just love those contributions of people who reanimated instruments in one way or other that would have ended up on a bar´s wall, otherwise. Especially those pics of satin-silvered horns featuring shiny engravings and examples of thought-through craftsmanship in conversions, adding valves or realigning slides for ergonomic benefits (although I still wonder why the heck somebody would cut a horn from BBb to CC in the process, I´d love to see a 6-valved BBb with additional main slide trigger that will tune higher AND lower).
I like it when people actually do have practical issues that can be solved via tubenet.
Equipment questions always depend: at times people actually convey the idea that they want to acquire new knowledge as opposed to the "2155 any remarks?" topics.
Mind-opening are those on the way tubists define their role in music, and the one on favorite works/recordings (whether tuba related or not) would be worth to become a "Sticky" topic, in my opinion. Each one of us has some gems in theirCD-collection that are worth sharing...

I find myself agreeing with Dan & Jonathan, above. Ken has chimed in with a good post, as well(Hi, Ken!). No one forces me to read anything posted on TubeNet. The format gives me clues as to what is interesting. I have found many, many interesting topics. I will admit that the pickins have been a little scarce for my taste in recent months. But that's the way it goes. I have kept coming back in hopes that something will get my interest. Heck! I guess this one has.

OK, don't get me wrong. 98% of TubeNet is great or this thing would have died a slow death many years ago. I have all three of my horns because of TubeNet. I've also bought and sold a boat load of mouthpieces and learned a lot of pedagogical information in the eight years I've been lurking.

I did this because of the topics that go way off topic. While it doesn't drive me nuts, I find it humorous that a simple tuba or music related topic can wonder around to where we see Elvis or steak. I guess this is typical of any BBS or forum. I use to be a member of the old telnet Pepper Music Network where it was closely monitored. Does anyone remember PNMN and Wendy pulling any off topic postings or anything she didn't want to read?

I know that us oldtimers see our favorite by a newbie with one posting listed under their name says "I play a BBb, but want to buy a CC. I heard that a CC better than a BBb...", let the fireworks fly. I can see it is driving some people nuts seeing this topic one more time by their responses. I enjoy the responses, some polite, some flaming. I also enjoy reading the responses of the tuba or mouthpiece du jour that a year later people are trying to sell, some at a lost, some trying to recoup all their money.

I can just say one more thing, keep posting!
