in all seriousness, this could basically end new orleans as a city.

i've never seen a weather report with that kind of language.

So, I expect that Federal Flood insurance will pay for a lot of the damage and FEMA will kick in the remainder--and they'll go ahead and rebuild on a flood plain?
Why not relocate the part of the city that's on a floodplain to higher ground? Save us all a bunch of money. You know, somewhere a little farther up the Mississippi valley out of harm's way, like, say La Crosse?

Sure, why not? It'd do wonders for the otherwise-bland Dairy State cooking. Mac 'n' Cheese Cajun-style. Watermelon pickle etouffee with swiss cheese...Doc wrote:La Crosse, WI? Tell me someone in WI that really wants New Orleans/Bourbon Street trash and filth up there. Yeah, there are some nice people in N.O., but relocate everyone? Well, better in La Crosse than here.
Besides, "La Crosse" is French, isn't it? Laissez le bon temps roulez!

Joe, becarefull upt there. We're getting 70MPH gust alrady, and the strong stuff isn't due untill 10 tonight.
I left the double wide after hearing the 70Mph number. Moved to safe ground, with a generator and a good network connection.
I doubt ya'll here from many Miss. folk for a while.
I haven't heard anything from Jackson in hours. I hope Wade's OK. I know he was in the process of moving.

Stay away--for a month!
I hope that Messrs. Rackley and Dodd are okay.

Much longer given the last I've heard. It'll take 2 month just to get the water out.Chuck(G) wrote:Stay away--for a month!

I survived. Just lucky though. My rain gage says 4.5" and The reporst were 70+MPH winds.
Only damage I've found is a busted window and a crak in the siding. Never believer that crap about vinyl siding being unbreakable.

TD, it's good to see you made it unscathed. I don't know how far out in the boonies you live ("BFE" is pretty general).
From all reports, it seems like New Orlean's finest have distinguished themselves again:

But yeah, 12-16 weeks of "stay away" is the latest I've heard. But that may be overblown, too. Here's the best blog I've found on the NOLA situation:

Looks like the folks in Houston will be playing host for some of the refugees:

Finally, someone's found a use for the Astrodome!
