I like the Aria of King Rene, from Tchaikowsky's opera Iolanta. Definitely sad, and a great piece to really milk it if you've got an accompnaist who can match your tempo changes. Available from Encore Music Publishers. I played it this past spring on a Bb tuba.

Hey, Man. The Second movement of the VW can be sad. It just depends on how you look at it. I find that it can be very haunting. That one could work easy.

VAUGHN WILLIAMS CONCERTO! Hey, if you can do it on a BBb, and do it well, you can do it on anything. the 1st and second movements are at the least doable, albeit with some serious work and dedication. Just my .02, Aim high, ya got nothing to lose!
