Here's one from my wife to my son:
Joe Baker, whose grandmother just turned 99.
From a good friend's mother:Your sisters will be mad if you leave the toilet seat up when you're through; but not half as mad as they'll be if you leave it DOWN before you start!
From my mother:Scratch where it itches, even if it itches in your britches
From my GRANDMOTHER:Never kiss a girl you wouldn't want me [speaking of herself] to meet.

From my DAD:
"Do the next right thing!"
"If you can't figure-out the next right thing....
....then think of the next wrong thing....and don't do it"
This has saved me from problems more times than any other catchy phrase. It's usually easy to think of the next wrong thing..it's not doing it that rules!

Bridge and pinochle both turn into all-evening affairs, I'm afraid. But some folks I know play cribbage at lunch.ThomasDodd wrote:I play it daily. One of the few card games that alow for more than one game during an hour klunch break! Most of the games I play take well ove an hour for one game.

"You never get a second chance to make a first impression."
My father said this when I was 16 and going out the door for a job interview (not wearing a tie). Then when I argued about wearing a tie, he said...
"I wish I was 16 again and knew everything."

My mom's quote that I tell my band students and high school math students is....
"If we weren't supposed to make mistakes, then why do we put erasers on pencils."
My grandfather's quote:
"The impossible just takes a little longer." (one of my favorites)
My mom told me a bunch of times that my grandfather, a WWII vet from the infantry, used to say the following quote which is more religious in nature than it appears on the surface
"If a bullet is meant to kill you, it will turn a corner."
Finally a quote from my highly successful uncle.
"Never turn down money or food."

My Grandpa, explaining the inverse proportion to number of boys present and the amount of work they will get done:
"Little Joe", who misses working the farm with Grandpa Baker
- a boy is a boy;
two boys is half a boy;
three boys is no boy at all

From a church orchestra director and arranger, who happens to be a friend and somebody that many of you would recognize by name:
"Isn't it good that you don't have to say everything you think?"
That's advice that I should probably follow a bit more often, especially when it comes to certain off topic discussions here on TubeNet.
