Now, i know it doesn't matter ,and is beneath our level of discussion but,,,, what horns were used in the last few auditions by people making it past at least one round of a pro audition? i ask this fully understanding that it doesn't matter and is beneath our level of discourse..........
I see where you're going here. We all say it doesn't and shouldn't matter, but the only way to put this to rest is to have the folks that won tell what they won on and see what is really happening out there. Althogh it is more likely that if there is a dominant style of horn it's probably because that type is just the "flavor of the month" at this time.

I have a friend who served on the audition committee for the now-defunct Sacramento Symphony. He said....rhythm, rhythm, rhythm. Doesn't matter if you have the most gorgeous tone on earth if you can't play in time. He said they would take a player with better rhythm and worse intonation, over one with better intonation and worse rhythm.
