Saw a 2006 Z06 Blue Vette today

Are you sure about fastest? What about the Sledgehammer Corvette from the 80s?

not the most expensive either. Adjusted for inflation, the early nineties ZR1 corvettes were more expensive.

I have seen a couple of them around here. As I approach my Corvette/Miata years they look more and more appealing. The newest ones are hot.

That old Callaway Sledgehammer was just that. Big and powerful, yet hard to handle.

A new Mitsu Evo VIII can outhandle the Callaway in a slalom. I'm willing to bet that the new Z06 LS7 Vette can handle and stop much better than that old C4 derivation. Also, going 'round a track, I bet that the Sledgehammer's rear end tries to pass the front end on nearly every turn.

If I were heading towards middle age crisis, three numbers for me 986.

NÃ¼rburgring Nordschleife is the track. Its a little over 13 miles long. IMO, different tires and shock adjustments render the car no longer stock, but that is still a very impressive time for that track.

The other factor is that the guy tooling around in the Porsche probably didn't go the full 100% knowing that he was in a $450,000 car, while the factory guys from Chebby are going to thrash that vette through the 'Ring. There have been dozens of deaths around that track. I'm guessing that the Porsche driver was possibly driving with a bit more reverence for that course.

Did they say how many times they went around to set that time?

Or if they practiced for hours on GT4 to learn the turns?

...I did'nt think I had to specify it as the fastest PRODUCTION vette that you can actually buy from the dealership as is...I'm sure of one thing though...it's much faster than our 74' Stingray that only cost $6,600

That reminds me of a funny story. In the early 90's, I went to a Saturn (GM) dealership with my stepfather to look at cars. I was interested in the SL2 sedan, which I eventually bought, and my stepfather was interested in the SW2 wagon. The GM salesperson tried his hardest to sell my middle aged, balding stepfather a Corvette - when he had gone in there to buy a Saturn wagon. Moral of this story - he eventually bought a used Subaru AWD wagon instead.
