Marine Band 2005 Tour

I heard that a Marine tuba quartet might play at UNT, is that confirmed?

THe Tuba Euph Quartet has been set up for next Saturday at UNT at 1:30. If you're around, it'd be good to see some folks there. Then you can grab some dindin and go see Miss Lipton kick some more hinie...

We were in NY on the 2002 tour, so adding 5 years puts it at 2007. Sites and exact dates are to be determined.

P.S. I meant NW beats UW, big ten football, the new black and blue division.

Elephant and Thomas Dodd in the house yesterday! Quartet rehearsal today, program for Saturday to be determined. Can't wait to wake up the rest of the guests with the opening bars of Forbes' "Consequences".....

P.S. I you're considering coming to one of our concerts but don't have tix, COME ANYWAY! The house opens to non-ticketed folks 15 minutes before the show. In 99% of the places we play, there are going to be at least a few no shows. The only time I'd worry about being turned away is if you had to drive a long distance. Someone passed on the Ole Miss concert because they didn't think they'd get in. Turns out there must've been 150 empty seats.

Amazing job all. And man, Aaron rocked on both, have you seen him play Czardas? Just his expression was worth the trip. But the "I've got rythm" bit had me rolling. Only thing better would have been a sousaphone doning it. The clarinet player was great on it too.

Even more amazing,

the saxes on Amazing Grace. They don't sound like that often.

And Tom, Ole Miss would have been 100miles each way, JSU was 150 miles each way.
Natchez at 270 miles is just too far when you get ~15 MPG

That was me. I almost went anyway. Really wish I had now. Live an learn. In 2010 I won't make that mistake.

And I noticed a typo. I made.

The program for Huntsville wasn't the same as JSU, I drive there tonight.

No, but graduates of his composition classes still get published once in a while.

Aaron Clay is a force on bass. It is truly amazing how much music he finds in that thing. Must see to believe. Glad you enjoyed the shows.

Now, the part where you gave props to a clarinetist and the saxophones... That is a bit unnerving. Never encourage the saxophones. They aren't even real instruments.

Rarely are touring military band concerts played to standing room only crowds. After all, there are no songs sung in which lyrics praise Satan, no screaming of curse words at audiences, no exposition of genitals/body waste, and no onstage consumption of live critters.

I think that you're living in the past. None of the modern bands that my children listen to would fit those parameters either. That type of program was much more common in the 80's. Ozzie Osborne doesn't even have a reality show any more, and the reality show is the last refuge of over the hill has-beens.

Last night, Richardson, TX. Great crowd! Hotel, next to a Whataburger, a Steak&Shake, Big Buck steakhouse and brewery, and a Bass Pro Shop. Eat yer fill, and go buy some tackle! The T-E 4tet plays at UNT tomorrow at 1:30. Exact location unknown(to me).

We were talking about tour band on the quintet job today; specifically, how it seems like you just left, and you're already in Texas. I know it doesn't seem quick to you guys, but it sure seems like it here. Tour is about a quarter of the way done. I hope there's a place to do laundry in Richardson or wherever you are. Can you get your clothes washed at Bass Pro?

Heads up, UNT crew--go see the quartet, should be fun. They'll be happy to have an audience. They'll be even happier to be playing something other than the tour book.
