Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer

Post by Chuck Jackson »

Ok, so I haven't seen this show since I was a kid. Come on you have gotta love the stop frame puppets, the cheesy songs, and Stan Freeburg as the voice of Rudolph's Dad. And what was going on in the meeting when they brain-stormed "Yukon Cornelius" and "Charley in the Box". Man, that was great stuff as a kid and pretty cool as an adult. But, is anyone else bothered by the fact that there are only 6 Reindeer and Rudolph in the last frames? Just a little nostalgia post, Thanks for enduring my reminiscing.

I watched it last night after not having seen it for several years. My two-year old was excited about it.

I had not remembered what a jerk Santa is in the show. (Not just to Rudolph, but to the elves too.) He doesn't say a nice word to anybody for the whole thing.

Perhaps the show has some authenticity. I never thought of Santa as a jerk, but at my house he can be pretty grumpy at times. This I know for a fact.

Hey- If you lived at the North Pole where it's -40 in the summer, you'd be pretty cranky, too!
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

If you were gullible enough to buy a DVD of the program (or doing your duty as a good dad) there are some scenes that seem to have been lost over the years. During part of the Santas' Elves song there is an elf playing a sousaphone, which I can never seeing before. Also at the end, Yukon strikes - PEPPERMINT.

I always noticed the lack of reindeer, but my wife pointed out a couple of other things in the edited out parts....1) Rudolph replaces his father "leading the team", and 2) Comet apparently never got back from conducting the reindeer games to get his position - this is a guess as he is never seen again after the earlier scene. This leaves 6 + Rudolph

But - I'm a Bumble fan anyway.
New Breed, Old Breed! It doesn't matter so long as it's the Marine Breed!

So, you're saying Santa can be a...um..."Grim" charachter, huh? :D
That is EXACTLY what I am saying!
