Repertoire advice

I had posted this up elsewhere but I thought this would be a good place to ask for advice.

I'm thinking about what I should order in for a jury piece for next term. I'm hoping to do a recital soon (this year or next) but haven't actually planned it yet. I'm just going to list out what I've done and maybe some of you guys could suggest some repertoire that I should look at.

Auditioned for University with: "AprÃ¨s un RÃªve" by Gabriel FaurÃ© arr. by me, "CantabilÃ© et Scherzando" by Henri BÃ¼sser.

1st year juries: Curnow "Rhapsody for Euphonium", Frackenpohl "Sonata for euphonium"

2nd. Barat "Andante et Allegro", "Morceau Symphonique" Guilmant

3rd: Marcello "Sonata," "Concerto Del Garda" Elizabeth Raum

4th: Gordon Jacobs "Fantasia"

I have Symphonic Variants by Curnow... but it scares me...

anybody, My teacher's a trumpet player and I think he's gonna say Horowitz... seeing the "solos you can't stand" topic I would like any advice.

Sounds like you are moving in the right direction. I would split my performance into three categories from this point, and try to accomplish at least one from each list every semester.

SOLOS - LYRICAL

Sparke - Aubade
Sparke - Song for Ina
Rachmaninoff - Vocalise
Gounod - Hail Ancient Walls
Paradies - Sicilienne
Faure - Sicilienne
Ewald - Romance

SOLOS - LARGER WORKS
Horovitz - Concerto
Casterede - Fantasie Concertante
Telemann - F Minor
Marcello - F Major
Sparke - Party Piece
Butterworth - Partita
Ritter George - Sonata
Jan Bach - Concert Variations
Boccalari - Sounds From The Riviera

SOLOS - TECHNICAL

Pryor - Anne Laure/Blue Bells/Thoughts of Love

I try to keep a balance of everything that I do. I will try to accomplish a major work, something slow and lyrical (which could be the second movement of a harder work), and then something "golden age" of brass-ish.

Just an idea. It sound's like you have a great start! Feel free to PM for any additional ideas!
