Dallas Merry Tubachristmas Concert- Friday December 23

Post by Stephen Shoop »

TWENTY-EIGHTH ANNUAL DALLAS MERRY TUBACHRISTMAS CONCERT

Over 175 area tuba and euphonium players will present the twenty-eighth annual Dallas Merry TUBACHRISTMAS concert on Friday, December 23. The performance will take place at Thanks-Giving Square, corner of Bryan, Ervay, and Pacific Streets, downtown Dallas at 12:00 noon. This year’s guest conductor will be D-FW Metroplex area low brass artist Chuck Mandernach. Master of ceremonies will be local media personality Alex Burton.

This year's concert is respectfully dedicated to the memory of Everett M. Gilmore (1935-2005) who held the position of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra principal tuba from 1965 to 1995. Mr. Gilmore was co-founder and principal organizer of the first annual Dallas Merry TUBACHRISTMAS concert in 1978, and frequently performed and conducted in these events over the years.

The concert, free of charge and open to the public, is presented by the D-FW area chapter of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association (I.T.E.A.) and the Harvey Phillips Foundation. Local sponsorship and assistance is provided by the Thanks-Square Foundation, and Brook Mays Music Company.

TUBACHRISTMAS concerts are performed annually in over 150 cities throughout the United States and Canada. These concerts are presented as a tribute to the late, great William J. Bell who was born on Christmas Day in 1902. “Billâ€

Mr. Gilmore will be missed. He was a very nice gentleman and I'll miss our brief conversations we had every year at TubaChristmas. I hope Mr. Burton will pay tribute to him during the concert.

Alex Burton will most definitely pay tribute to Ev Gilmore at our concert in Dallas this coming Friday. Alex and Ev were good personal friends.
