Are Khakis Dress Pants or Casual Wear
Ok, so this may go down as THE most innocuous thread ever put up, but I am trying to get some ammo for an argument I have been having with my wife. I say that a nicely pressed pair of Khakis with a Navy Blue Sport Coat/white shirt(must be button down), loafers, and a tie is appropriate attire for most affairs. She insists that dress pants or suit are the only way to go as Khakis are meant for casual affairs only. Mind you, this isn't a "formal" affair where I would wear a suit or tux, but a house party. The thing that gets me is she is a FFOV tried-and-true Southern Belle who sees nothing but khakis at the seemingly endless parade of events that I am dragged to anytime we get back to the "Motherland". Come on guys, help me out here, shouldn't something that works in the State of Virginia work here in Las Vegas?

I would direct your attention to the formal attire of The Fairfield Four.

I don't know your wife, but I can tell you how it is with mine. If she says it is casual, it is casual. That's that. There's no point in arguing. Any questions?
From my experience, when it comes to arguments of just about any kind, the rules are pretty simple: If you lose the argument based on merit, you lose the argument. If you win the argument based on merit, you lose the argument. It is generally beneficial to avoid losing the argument.

You have just described how 90% of all college band directors dress. The other 10% wear a turtleneck.Chuck Jackson wrote:I say that a nicely pressed pair of Khakis with a Navy Blue Sport Coat/white shirt(must be button down), loafers, and a tie

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

I don't think your wife is taking issue with the clothing, so much as the color and the season and time of day.
Maybe it's different in the warmer states, but I was taught that lighter colors (like khaki) are strictly summer issue.
But then, I wonder if things are different south of the Mason-Dixon line.

I'd venture to guess that it depends on what everyone else is wearing.Chuck Jackson wrote: I say that a nicely pressed pair of Khakis with a Navy Blue Sport Coat/white shirt(must be button down), loafers, and a tie is appropriate attire for most affairs.
Why not compromise and get a pair of light brown/beige slacks?

If the wife starts complaining about you being underdressed, just wear tails to everything. Then when she starts complaining about you being overdressed, start crying and tell her to make up her mind.

Considering this post, a nice pair of navy blue slacks seems to be a small price to paybloke wrote:Didn't you write this book?DaTubaKid wrote:If the wife starts complaining about you being underdressed, just wear tails to everything. Chuck

(which would be just fine in the YANKEE NORTHEAST, as long as you were wearing boat shoes...)

I haven't studied their history, but I do know that it originally started out with four members way back when gospel quartets were a normal part of radio. Somewhere along the line, they added a fifth member but kept the original name. Why are they called the Fairfield FOUR?
