Things you didn't know you knew

Post by Chuck(G) »

My wife and I enjoy listening to radio dramatizations of old "Twilight Zone" episodes on BBC 7. Stacey Keach serves as the narrator for these and the scripts are followed pretty accurately.

Now here's the funny thing.

I probably haven't seen a Twilight Zone episode for more than 20 years. Yet (10 for 10 episodes so far), I can run down the plot within 10 seconds of hearing the the episode start, long before the "Submitted for your approval" line. In about half of them, I can recount the plot after hearing only the title of the episode. On about 75% of them, I can name one of the actors in the original episode.

How's that for weird? I wasn't aware that the series had made such an impression on me, what, 40 years ago? To be sure, there was some fine screenwriting in that series that we don't see nowadays.

Does anyone else have a similar experience to recount?

Somewhere I read that the human mind stores literally everything it experiences, similar to a holographic image.
It simply needs the right "spark" in form of an association to revive the memory.

The original " Star Trek " episodes . I saw all the original ones as kid on the first color tv we ever owned and it was one of the shows I can remember watching in color . I think I can recall just about all of them . Tribbles anyone ?

" Wild, Wild, West " is another show that I can probably recall all the episodes to . When is the last time anyone saw that show ?

That's nothing... after hearing a line from *ANY* Seinfeld show, my wife can give you a quick summary of which episode it was; "Oh, THAT'S the 'puffy shirt' show... ", but she'll still watch it!
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

1970 Super Bowl: Kansas City defeats Minnesota

A couple of years ago I was playing a weekend gig in mid-January, and the bar TV had ESPN classics on, including this game, in its entirety as originally broadcast. It was at the end of the band break, the band leader said come on, and I said, "Watch this: Otis (89) will do a post pattern for good yardage." Exactly. At the next break I was again saying what would come next, kind of a play-by-play-before-the-play. I had not even seen highlights from 1970 until it aired on Classics.

Now, just when are the Chiefs going to be in the Super Bowl again?
