Could the perceived change in level of service, be correlated with the merger with Music 1-2-3?

Changing the subject a bit . . .

Has anyone noticed the decline in tuba inventory at WWBW since the beginning of the year? It looks like they may be moving away from tubas that would lend themselves to low-volume sales, and focusing on the models that high schools and colleges are more likely to purchase (which is probably a good business decision).

Or, maybe, it's just a blip in current inventory.

Tuba inventory

We are just experiencing a technical glitch at the moment. To see our full stock of tubas you need to click on the Custom Select tab at the top of the page. The horns are supposed to be populated on the full site and the CS site, but that has not happened yet. We are out of Willson CC (on order) and some of the Rudy Meinl horns (on order), but we're also adding the MW2000 and several other more exotic instruments to the list in the near future.

We're actually going to be growing this part of the business.

Just figured I'd let you know.

The trumpet players have their pocket trumpets. What the world needs now is a pocket tuba; A GENUINE CHINESE POCKET TUBA. Remember you read it here first.

The key is all in the naming. Call it a tuba, and people will whine about the little sound. Call it a super-portable, mini-cooper compatible, pocket tuba, then expectations change and it's now something wonderful.

Instead of cursing WWBW and other mail order companies, consider visiting a music store in your area. I bet they will stock what ever valve oils, method books, and accessories you want if you just ask.

It may not be profitable for every small town shop to carry tuba exotica, but they can certainly handle your everyday supples. To me, saving a few cents (or dollars) just isn't worth losing a valuable local resource. Additionally, money spent in your community is money invested in your community.

Please don't get me wrong, I use mail order fairly often. But give the local shop a chance, otherwise some of our school music programs will lose their strongest advocates.

While I do agree with your point, the original post came from a student at Interlochen. During this time of year, it's not easy to go from Corson to TJ (Across campus) let alone to get off campus. If a student drives there, they are not able to leave campus, and the mall bus on Monday doesn't take you anywhere near a music store. It's a whole different world! Took me a whole semester of college to get used to the fact that the rest of the world doesn't run Tuesday through Saturday! :shock:

I haven't purchased from WWBW but they have been very good on passing information during emails and phone chats. Personally, I had a god purchase from Tuba Exchange and his past summer I arrived without money to try horns at Dillons. Matt and Co. spent spent a couple of hours with me hanging and talking tubas - my next major purchase will come from them for sure - come on Miraphone EEb!

This is a small thing, but for the last four or five months I have noticed an extensive out of stock problem with Denis Wick euph and trombone mouthpieces. I would be interested in knowing if the problem is with Denis Wick or if the buyers at WWBW are stretching out their wholesale reorder times for some reason.

It was too long ago! I went for two years and graduated in '94. So much has changed there since I was there. They have done a TON of construction since I left, but the old charm is still there!

I studied with Pete Brockman my first year, and Jeannie Little my senior year. Tom started two years after I left, I think. My senior year was when Hazelwood started and John Ross was the academy band director. Byron did orchestra my first year.

As great as the kids and teachers were when I was there, the conductors were the BEST! Byron Hanson can play ANYTHING on the piano. I've watched him take a full orchestra score and AT SIGHT, play a reduction on the piano. PERFECTLY! He's just amazing! John Ross had the ability to get the band to sound EXACTLY like he wanted.

I played more music BETTER at Interlochen than I ever did in college. It's a great place.

Is that Besson would promise the moon and then not deliver anything at all. Ship dates kept getting pushed back. After a while our computers just assumed that it would take a lot longer than promised. When we would meet, they would act as though nothing was wrong and that we just weren't ordering enough.

I have ordered many things from WWBW including a horn, mouthpieces, and many other items and have had only one bad experience. WWBW shipped me the wrong mouthpiece last year. I ordered a Wick SM3 (silver) and they sent a SM3M (gold). Otherwise I have no problems with the Brasswind.

The only complaint that I have is with the print catalog - too many typos and other errors that should have been caught by the copyeditor/proofreader. (Sorry, but I'm an editor - those things just kill me.)

Good Web site though, and no complaints on sales staff or service. Sometimes retailers are just at the mercy of the suppliers...
