But of course bum calls have always been a part of sports, and always will be. There's just too much happening for every nuance to be caught every time. [/quote]

I will say that the number of replays nearly put me over the edge. I think the decision of the BCS was to take EVERY care to eliminate the "we was robbed" cry by the eventual non-winning team/fans. - not easilly done.

At the start I thought the Refs were favoring USC with non-calls (lots of holding on the first drive) but it sceemed to remain pretty consistant throughout the game.

Was there even 1 holding call on either offensive line?

But, overall I still say the Buckeyes should leapfrog over Penn Statein the final standings. I also say they would have performed well enough to have won playing either USC or Texas. They may not have, but they could have.

New Breed, Old Breed! It doesn't matter so long as it's the Marine Breed!

You should have seen some of the ACC games this year. I was happy finally to see a game with as FEW replays as the Rose Bowl had.

I seem to remember at least one, maybe two.

You sure you're not talking about the ND/OSU game?

BTW...does anybody think that with Leinharts inability to handle defeat (he did say they won at first in his field interview, then in the locker room said Texas didn't win, /USC lost it)..he might be the next Ryan Leaf?

Most members of my family are so glad Alabama won their bowl and Auburn lost theirs.

Well, here's one prediction about L's future in the pros:

Hmmm... More inclined to cut him a little piece of slack cake. Based on everything I've heard and read about Matt, he sure ain't no Ryan Leaf. One report I read talked about Leinart heading over to the Texas locker room to hug and congratulate Mack and Vince. In the great pantheon of hard-fought-but-ultimately-lost-post-game-quotes, "They didn't win, we lost it" doesn't sound all *that* bad to me.

Will he pan out in the NFL? Only time will tell. Given that predictions for the Rose Bowl's outcome ran all over the map, I'd say most of these windbag talking heads prolly couldn't guess with a gun to their heads.

Don't you guys know, THERE WAS NO ROSE BOWL THIS YEAR? The Rose Bowl is supposed to happen roughly about two hours after the Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1, or January 2, should the first be on Sunday. There was a BCS Game played at the Rose Bowl Stadium a couple of days after the Rose Parade (never call it the "Rose Bowl Parade!"). Most of the locals, unless they were grads of either USC or UT, couldn't care less about the game.

I worked at the Rose Parade as an usher for Sharp Seating from 2000-05. There is a certain tradition that goes with the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl. When Miami played Nebraska a few years ago for the BCS at the Rose Bowl, the fans from Nebraska knew about the traditions and respected them. There was a Nebraska team in the Rose Bowl some 60 years before this. But Miami could care less. And you know the King Orange New Year's Eve Parade is long defunct, so they could care less about the tradition of the parade. I don't even think half of the Miami band showed up for the Rose Parade.

Now, there was no Rose Parade in 1942-46, but there was a Rose Bowl game. Even though the game between Oregon State and Duke was played on Duke's campus in Durham, North Carolina, in 1942, they played the game on the right day at the right time.

In years when they have the BCS game at the Rose Bowl, it almost seems like the end of a baseball season without the World Series.
