as someone who has to interview folks for county government jobs (i.e., civil service, have to sexually asault the board of supervisors to get fired)....having a screen and just listening to playing is absoultely not the way to go.

I would have a two part interview, panel A - behind the screen straight playing. Panel B - job interview (what are you strenghts and weaknesses....etc). Then a group in a difficult personell spot (replacing a longtime member) can not only get the artist they feel sounds good, but also evaluate how that person might fit into the groups culture.

The screen gives the appearance of non-discrimination, and that is absolutely necessary. Actual discrimination, of course, can take place but they must adhere to the proper appearance.

Actualy "fairness?" ......Ain't gonna happen in very many circumstances.

A screen might give white males a fair shake.
We wouldn't deserve it though, oppressing everyone and such.

The screen gives fair chance to the players of Huttl and Selman.

I don't see the tuba audition information on the website. It only discusses the audition that is taking place in February.

From the "Audition FAQs" section:

a) How do I get the repertoire list?

The repertoire list will be sent to you via email (or regular US mail if you do not have an email address) after you submit your resume. It will also be made available on the DSO audition page in PDF.

So, if you don't want to wait on the list being posted, you could always come up with a $100 deposit and mail in your resume. I wouldn't plan on being invited unless you already have a symphony gig, though...
