Recording Question

Post by Rommel72 »

Ok, here is a question I was wondering about. I have commissioned several pieces in the last several years. I did the premiers and all that fun stuff. Now a couple of these pieces have been published. So lets say that I have decided to record a CD and want to include these pieces. Do I have to pay for the right to record these pieces or do I already have the right since I commissioned for them to be written? I think I know the answer, but I wanted to hear everyone's thoughts. Thanks.

Who owns the copyright? If it is not you, then whoever does own it gets to call the shots.

Yeah, it depends on the agreement/contract you had with whom you commissioned. If you didn't have a clear contract or agreement, I suggest you contact each of them (the person who wrote the work) and see what they have to say.
