Looking for a horn

Post by tubajoe »

Greetings tubafriends...

A student of mine just got into one of the "top" studios for undergrad, and I am helping her find a horn.

We are looking for a pro model 4/4 CC... the usual deal. We are checking the usual places, but if anyone knows of any other ideas or leads, please drop me a an email joe@tubajoe.com

thanks!

Some outfit in Arizona picked up a lot of The Brasswind's "B/C" stock recently. I spoke with a friend who just received the little Weril 3/4 BBb for about $1500. It needs a little work (like adding the water key on the first valve slide that they somehow forgot and resoldering a bad slide joint).

Unless anyone here remembers the name of the place, I'll try to run it down for you. You might be able to find a pretty good deal for your student there.

I'm sure you've checked out the For Sale section here, but there is newer Alexander CC in great shape up for grabs. It's likely a fantastic tuba, and nothing in the world sounds like an Alexander.

I bought my horn from Mr. Fedderly at Baltimore Brass. The dealings were very reasonable and he was helpful. I just checked their site and there are a few interesting tubas on it including a conn 52j that is used but looks really new. There is also a miraphone 184 that looks old but who knows, you might love the sound, and it's a 5 valve CC for under 4000 bucks. Best of luck!
