Isn't that one at the top, just beyond the third valve? (of course, it doen't connect to anything... )Captain Sousie wrote:I may be just a tuba player, but I don't see a reciever or anything resembling one. Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

From the manufacturers web page:
"We have hammered and formed the whole body (bell, bows and slides) for several days. Having finished this work we get a certain hardness of the brass, which results in very strong and spontaneous vibrations."
Evidently this 'new' forming process can be done without the conventional annealing that usually has to be performed several times during bow-making to keep the brass from becoming brittle. If you bang on a piece of brass for several days it's gonna fall apart!

Spontaneous vibrations? Is that good?TubaTinker wrote: quoting the manufacturer, "...which results in very strong and spontaneous vibrations."
I keep visualizing the horn just sitting there, and suddenly vibrating spontaneously. Personally, I think it would freak me out.

Had a good day at the Nationals, results;
http://www.4barsrest.com/news/detail.asp?id=4311
Had a good look over the new euphs (hiding my Willson tie, lol) very nice, but could not see any differences on the Prestige models visually, did'nt get a chance to blow them though.
Both the 967 Sovereigns (s/p & lac) looked superb, as if care had been taken in the assembly! (Bit like stroking an old horse you once knew?!)
The Inderbinden euph was there too, strange finish to go for, and the bell felt thinner and already had a dent in it. The euph was well weighted and balanced, and once again, the Swiss valves were superb (far superior to B&H). It seems that this euph gives an amazing sound, not that I had chance to blow it.
Noticeable was the weighted (and bolted on) heavy rings that join the bell and bottom bow together. Maybe that's the secret?

Well, bolting things down is only prudent if you're showing them to low brass players!...Highams wrote:Noticeable was the weighted (and bolted on) heavy rings that join the bell and bottom bow together. Maybe that's the secret?

Tim Ornato, Brass Products Specialist for Buffet Crampon USA, attended our Chicago Brass Band rehearsal last evening. He mentioned in conversation that there are still some existing 983s and 995s from old stock. The plan is to eventually bring both of those models back into production, along with the 3 + 1 tubas that are popular in the UK and in brass bands.
