Hi-
Bought some old magazines today, and in there were many instrument ads and endorsements--here is a pic of the tuba player with the Chicago Symphony before Arnold Jacobs, George Hamburg, and his 4 valve bell front York tuba, c. 1925, and then a pic of the three Yorks--JW in the middle and his two sons on either side--enjoy!

Bigger pics now in the original post. Hmmm ...a book on old ads--from what I bought today, I cut out about 125+ brass inst. ads from 1900-28--more for my archives--and maybe a book...

Yep, his name was August Helleberg, the first tubist of the Chicago Symphony.You mean the CSO had a tuba player before Arnold Jacobs????

Recording bell used to be for
RECORDING! Of course he had a bell-front tuba. In 1925 you needed one because the recording equipment was so bass-resistant.
