New Orleans Jazzfest

The New Orleans “Jazzfest” (aka the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival) or aka "ITEC on the Delta" - or it should be! Hoardes of tuba bands...

The festival started last weekend, and runs this Thursday thru Sunday, with still more shows off-site thru the week and late night jams all over.

I'll be down there - playing on Sat, May 2 with the New Orleans Klezmer Allstars (a fun, funky band... the infamous Verizon commercial was written by members of that band) at the New Orleans Sheraton Fais Do-Do stage - 4:25pm. (opposite Bon Jovi - ha ha)

It also looks like that the Fais Do-Do stage has a dedicated webcam...


We are also supposed to hit on Thurs (30) and Fri (1) - info TBA.

I have been going almost every year since 1980 (usually just as an audience member) and it IS very tuba friendly! Be sure to look for any group Matt Perrine might be playing in ( Bonerama 5/2, New Orleans Night Crawlers - too late - they already played - maybe a few more? I don't see Tin Men listed)

The food is also a major factor for your enjoys - my favorite is Crawfish Sack and Oyster Patties by Patton's Caterers, but most everything is above "Very Good!"

Tin Men will be at the Lagniappe stage 4:10PM (they listed it as just Alex McMurray!) and Kirk Joseph's Backyard Groove will be at the Jazz and Heritage stage 520 PM today (Thursday)

Yeah, that's NoLa tuba player Jon Gross. He sounds great! It was recorded a while ago, but it's being used again. Great PR for the tuba!

Updated the Dragon's Den time tomorrow... 10pm. Tonite at Baccanal is still at 9.

BTW, I've been here for less than 24 hours and it seems there is tuba stuff going on ALL over this city. Even in addition to Jazzfest... Kirk Joseph is on a riverboat tonite, a student of Robert Nunez' is doing a tuba concerto with the orchestra tomorrow, and I met a great player from France, pumping out the trad on the F tuba on the street today (with a huge sound!)

We're proud of Joe and Tubajoe. Two tubenetters who can cut it. The people of New Orleans are in for a treat. Wish you guys a fun time.
We play Lake Charles. La. on Saturday for the Contraband Days festival. I hope the crowds, both locals and tourists, are as appreciative of tubas as the wonderful bunch in New Orleans. They know what you are doing for them because they hear tubas a lot and they love it.
