Tuba Concerto- Barry McKimm

Post by jon112780 »

Doe anybody know of a recording of this complete work?

This is not the composition on Gene's CD 'Big Boy'.

You might be able to chase this up through the Australian Music Centre:

Didn't Gene play it at one of the Army Band tuba conferences a few years ago? I think there is a recording floating around somewhere.

Barry's email address is available on the Australian Music Centre's web site (I think someone already posted a link) under his bio.

I performed this last year, and contacted him just to contact him and we emailed back and forth quite a bit in the weeks leading up to that performance. He probably has recordings.

I also have 2 recordings, one of which is me with the UW-Milwaukee Wind Ensemble.

Very nice concerto with a great deal of beautiful, sweeping melodic lines! There is a lot of face time, and the cadenza has a bit of (what I as a non-australian interpret as) aboriginal percussion involved in it.

I love the piece, have performed it twice, and look forward to performing it again!!!

I recorded it on Summit Records and it was just released last month. You can order it from them, or I also have some. I love this piece, and I hope my recording does it justice. Thanks,

Here's a place to get some recordings, if you are near a library which has Interlibrary Loan.

A sampler CD that was issued some years ago contained Gene's performance of a portion of the McKimm concerto--perhaps the performance from the Army Band tuba conference.
