Of course not, but here the EXISTING alternative is a US made tuba, which has been paid for.

Thank You all again for you kind and insightful comments Like I said I'm keeping my old friend of 21 years how could I have even thought of giving my buddy up!!I'm going to save my extra money and sell my King Sousaphone try to sell /trade some artwork and keep looking untill I find the Ideal 4/4 (I'll be talking to you guys again...) I'm not doing this because I think the M&M is a bad horn but because it was pointed out that I might regret trading my old buddy in and after thinking about it I agree... While we are at brainwashing you:

If your King sousaphone is in decent shape, then it is no bad BBb bass at all. If the top bow of the 1st valve loop is a pullable slide, then you have just about all of the range and intonation options needed in community and church ensemble playing.

Yes my sousaphone is a 1945 silver three valve and all the slides work.. but since I got my 3J I have played it very little!! I can't even remember the fingerings so insted of letting it sit in the corner on the tube stand I'm going to try to sell it and with that money.. sell a little art work and buy a little bigger cc model and keep my little 3J baby<s>. I have already contacted Scott the musicion I was trading with and told him I just couldn't give up my baby!!..bigbob http://www.rgisculptures.com" target="_blank

I think you should keep your 3J. It's a good horn.

If you also want a really good bigger CC tuba, I don't think you can go wrong with the Schiller five rotor CC tuba for approximately $1780 with case. MM and TE sell these (identical) for much more money. I got mine from Laabs in Wisconsin. I've had mine for a few months and by now have had a lot of face time on it. It's a very good tuba and is well made. If this horn isn't the biggest bargain in the tuba world, I don't know what is.

You may have already said, but what horn is this (more or less) a copy of?

bigbob,

Many different brands of that identical tuba are made at the same factory in China, and then later branded with different names (Called "stenciling"). So, as far as I can tell, this 186 copy IS the M&M. One might assume that, initially, one brand is not better or worse than any other, since they are manufactured by the same workers in the same factory.

However, it appears that some brands might receive more attention than others before reaching the buyer. For example, tubamlb states in another thread that the "M&M" tubas are checked out at the factory. A different approach is used by Dillon Music, where the tubas are meticulously gone over by Matt Walters after they arrive at the store. So, while the price varies by several hundred dollars depending on which name is stamped on the bell, there SEEMS to be a reason for it.

Whether that attention improves the product enough to warrant the significant price difference would be a difficult question to answer.

I wonder what that means?.... Maybe he's saying there are sixteen factories that turn out brass instruments, and he doesn't know which one of them makes 186 copies.
That must be the case, as I can't believe there is such demand for 186 copies that sixteen different factories are churning them out, even on a part time basis.

But, again, it just highlights the confusion about these instruments.

I suspect it does. The Dalyan Prague I purchased a few years ago came in the factory wrapping (not looked over by the retailer) and did have some issues that needed some attention. That cost me time and money. Still a fine little tuba for the price, but having a little more quality control either at the factory or the retailer would in my opinion be worth the extra $$$.

I'm just NOT interested in the Chinese horns. No matter how cheap or good deal for the money, it just feels wrong to me.

I like my tubas like I like my women and my beer: German. :)
