Got home from church and the house smelled a little and everything in the fridge part seemed barely cool, freezer was still frozen. Could be related to the house being so hot and humid for a couple days.
If it is a new fridge and not a $100 repair, probably no used scooter then (even though longterm would potentially save considerably)
See if you have a fan motor (that possibly distributes cold air from the freezer compartment to the refrigerator department) is
- so dirty that it can't turn
- worn, and (though in need of replacement) a bit of oil would make it work for a little while longer
- frozen over, so that it cannot turn

I checked all the mechanical stuff out, and it was clean and looked intact. I could hear fans turn on as I adjusted the refrigerator and freezer thermostats. I called the used appliance shop I bought the unit from last year, and they recommended a local repairman. He said took everything apart and said the two
thermistors were bad. This was allowing ice to accumulate in the ducts that direct cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator ultimately blocking them, since they never triggered the heater coil to defrost those ducts. He came back today and replaced the thermistors. In the process, he broke the heater coil. He will be back next week with that part.
At least the total is repair is a small fraction of the price of a new fridge. Still gotta pay for the rest of the roof and the new HVAC.
The gutters need to be replaced soon, as they had been leaking water out all over the place since we moved in. I figured they were clogged, so I bought a 17 foot ladder and went up into them. The roofers had completely cleaned them out after the roof job, but they have split seams and other problems. I need to wait until I have the other stuff paid down. At least the water heater seems to be good (for now.) Can't think of too many other high-dollar things that should need replacement any time soon. Fortunately, most other repairs are things I can handle, but I try to stay off the roof.
