I don't see what your problem is...
The first is a wooden keyed instrument, like a serpent, only smaller. They could have been more accurate and called it a 'worm', but that probably wouldn't translate well, either. 'deluxe super ebony preying mantis squeek-thing'?
The second often infrequently hits the right note, despite the attitude of the player. Copper is just an English policeperson.
